Freelance Writer and Editor 2010-present
As a freelance reporter and writer, I have written breaking news, in-depth analysis, personality and business profiles for local newspapers. I have also ghostwritten blog posts and product reviews. As an editor, I specialize in close edits and proofreading, with a focus on word choice and audience targeting. In addition to non-fiction work, I have edited two published novels.
Multimedia editor and publisher; Sainte Somewhere (2012-16), RealBriefing (2007-08) and The Redline (1993-94)
Sainte Somewhere was a video-centric website dedicated to showing beaches from around the world. I commissioned and edited video from freelance videographers. The site featured a daily self-written blog, as well as fiction and non-fiction from hired writers. I marketed promoted the site on Facebook and Twitter. RealBriefing was a daily news digest about the local and national real estate industry and required daily news synopsis, updates and analysis. The Redline was a daily faxed sports publication about the Wisconsin Badgers. I conducted all research, created the layout and its design, marketing and edited and wrote the publication daily.
Assistant Sports Editor, reporter; Thomasville Times Enterprise 1994-1995
I oversaw all aspects of producing a sports section for a 6-a-week afternoon daily in Southwest Georgia. I covered sporting events, personnel moves, breaking non-sports news and personal and organizational profiles. I copy edited two reporters and wire news, selected and edited photos and laid out the page for publication.

I originated this position in Colorado and helped it build it into a key component of the company’s marketing strategy. In addition to sales duties, I created online brochures, directed templates and crafted the overall look of the way we related to our clients. This job required email, chat and telephone conversations with potential clients.

I ran sales and marketing department for a mid-level homebuilder in Chicago. I managed a staff of 12, helped coordinate, conceive and implement marketing strategy.

I averaged more than $6 million in sales each year in different regions, price ranges and economic conditions. I closed nearly 400 homes. Because of my attention to the customers’ stated and unstated needs, as well as my diligence in seeing the purchase to its conclusion, my customer service surveys were consistently among the companies’ leaders.
